The tight-knit community of Sikeston, Missouri, is grappling with sadness and unanswered questions after authorities confirmed the body recovered from St. John’s Bayou on April 20, 2025, as Tim Hale, a local man who had been missing for months.

The New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office reported that on the morning of April 20, a local fisherman noticed a body floating in the bayou near County Highway 806 and immediately contacted authorities. Deputies from New Madrid County swiftly responded to the scene and, with the assistance of officers from the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, retrieved the remains from the water. The body was then transported to the New Madrid County Morgue for further examination.

An autopsy was conducted at the request of New Madrid County Coroner George DeLisle. Through the examination and identifying procedures, the body was officially confirmed to be Tim Hale, who had been reported missing in February 2025. Authorities noted that, pending toxicology results, no signs of external trauma were found during the autopsy. At this time, both the cause and manner of death remain undetermined.

In an official statement, the New Madrid County Sheriff’s Office expressed their gratitude to all agencies that contributed to the investigation and recovery efforts, including the Sikeston Department of Public Safety, the New Madrid Police Department, and the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

“This is not the outcome any of us had hoped for,” said a representative from the Sheriff’s Office. “Our hearts go out to Mr. Hale’s family during this incredibly difficult time. We will continue our efforts to find out exactly what happened.”

Authorities continue to encourage anyone who may have information regarding the circumstances surrounding Tim Hale’s disappearance to come forward. Tips and information can be reported to the Sikeston Department of Public Safety by calling 573-471-4711.
